Take the Poll Add Comment ![]() Obama orders military to prepare for food riots in spring Posted by EU Times on Jan 13, 2011 A grim report prepared by France’s General Directorate for External Security (DGSE) obtained by Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) states that president’s Obama and Sarkozy have “agreed in principal” to create a joint US-European military force to deal exclusively with a Global uprising expected this spring as our World runs out of food. According to this report, Sarkozy, as head of the G-20 group of developed Nations, called for and received an emergency meeting with Obama this past Monday at the White House wherein he warned his American counterpart that the shock rise in food prices occurring due to an unprecedented series of disasters was threatening the stability of the entire World and could lead to the outbreak of Total Global War. Just last week French Prime Minister Francois Fillon underlined that one of France’s top G-20 priorities was to find a collective response to “excessive volatility” in food prices now occurring, a statement joined by Philippe Chalmin, a top economic adviser to the French government, who warned the World may face social unrest including food riots in April as grain prices increase to unprecedented highs. The fears of the French government over growing Global instability was realized this past week after food riots erupted in Algeria and Tunisia and left over 50 dead. So dire has the situation become in Tunisia that their government this morning rushed in massive amounts of troops and tanks to their capital city Tunis and instituted a Nationwide curfew in an order to quell the growing violence. The United Nations, also, warned this past Friday that millions of people are now at risk after food prices hit their highest level ever as Global wheat stocks fell to 175.2 million tons from 196.7 million tons a year ago; Global corn stocks are said may be 127.3 million tons at the end of this season, compared with last month’s USDA outlook for 130 million tons; and Global soybean inventories will drop to 58.78 million tons at the end of this season, from 60.4 million tons a year earlier. Robert Zoellick, president of the World Bank, further warned this past week that rising food prices are “a threat to global growth and social stability” as our World, for the first time in living memory, has been warned is just “one poor harvest away from chaos”. Important to note about how dire the Global food situation has become is to understand the disasters that have befallen our World’s top wheat growing Nations this past year, and who in descending order are: China, India, United States, Russia, France, Canada, Germany, Ukraine, Australia and Pakistan. Place Your Votes Here: ![]() Insanity, Rhetoric and Violence: No Easy Answers By Stephanie Pappas, LiveScience Senior Writer Posted: 10 January 2011 06:50 pm ET Livescience.com In the aftermath of the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and 19 others at a Tucson supermarket, one overarching question has emerged: Is violent political rhetoric to blame? Many have argued that warlike words contributed to the actions of Jared Lee Loughner, the 22-year-old man who allegedly killed six people and wounded 14 others, including Giffords (D-Ariz.), on Saturday. Loughner's behavior and online postings suggest that he may have a mental illness, although he has not been officially diagnosed. Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik kicked off the debate at a news briefing after the shooting, saying that Arizona had become a "capital" for vitriol, prejudice and bigotry. Giffords herself decried violent rhetoric during the last election, when Sarah Palin's political action committee posted a map with what appeared to be the cross-hairs of a gun sight over Gifford's district. (SarahPAC has since removed the image, and a spokesman has said the icons were not meant to be gun sights.) Can violent political rhetoric push a mentally unstable person over the edge? The answer isn't as simple as yes or no, psychologists say. Violent rhetoric can make people more comfortable with the idea of violence, according to some research, but it's almost impossible to pin down the larger causes of one specific incident, researchers say. The need for nuance Debate over Loughner's motives has hewed largely along party lines. Conservative politicians and pundits have been quick to dismiss Loughner as a "madman" and a loner without a coherent political policy. On the other hand, those at the liberal end of the spectrum have blamed militaristic political metaphors for creating a dangerous climate. In many ways, the debate echoes the conversations that took place after the November 2009 Fort Hood shooting, said Peter Ditto, a psychologist at the University of California, Irvine, who studies political reasoning. In that case, U.S. Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan was charged with gunning down 13 people and wounding 30 others. "In that case, it was the right that's saying, 'This guy did it, this was caused by jihadist motivation,' and the left was saying, 'Oh, you know, he was just crazy,'" Ditto told LiveScience. "So, that was a perfect example of the sort of mirror-image phenomenon." Neither narrative — "just crazy" or "driven to violent action"— really fits, psychologists say. People with severe mental illnesses are more likely than the general public to commit violent crime, said Seena Fazel, a senior lecturer in psychiatry at the University of Oxford. But that doesn't mean people with severe mental illnesses are automatically dangerous. "The vast majority of violent crimes in society, including homicides, are not committed by people with mental illness. That needs to be clear," Fazel told LiveScience. "Most people with mental illness are not violent, and most violent crimes are not committed by people who are mentally ill." Illness and violence People with acute mental disorders like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder are two to three times more likely to commit violent crimes (not just homicide) than people without mental illness, Fazel's research has found. ![]() THE COMING CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS Posted December 6, 2010 Months ago I pointed out that Obama was abusing the power of the President to issue Executive Orders. I also predicted that if the outcome of the election in November went against the Democrats the use of the executive orders would probably increase, potentially causing a major Constitutional crisis. Recently, a far left think tank in Washington D.C. called The Center for American Progress has called for the President to by pass Congress and use his Executive powers to push forward his socialist agenda. The idea is to have Obama become a virtual dictator who will ignore the Constitution and act on his own despite the will of Congress and the American people. This would include using not only executive orders but also actions taken by such executive agencies as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). It is also suggested that he use his power as Commander in Chief of the military. The implications of that are particularly frightening to me. Of course, in addition to having control of cabinet positions such as the Dept. of Education and the Department of the Interior, Obama has also laid the groundwork for even more power and control by his appointment of 42 “Czars” who have extraordinary powers conferred by the President himself. These appointments were made without the advice and consent of the Senate that is required by the Constitution. Among the suggestions made by the Center for American Progress and those already in progress by the Obama Administration are the following: Read entire article - This list will blow you away! DREAM Act carries some harsh realities (Rep. Lamar Smith) By Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) - 12/06/10 04:53 PM ET Last week, the Department of Labor reported that unemployment in America rose to 9.8 percent. Joblessness has now topped 9.5 percent for 16 straight months, the longest stretch since the Great Depression. Yet in the 11th hour of the 111th Congress, Democrats are attempting to pass legislation that would grant amnesty to an estimated two million illegal immigrants. The DREAM Act subsidizes education for illegal immigrants, grants them mass amnesty, encourages more illegal immigration and inevitably takes jobs from American workers. Simply put, the DREAM Act is a nightmare for the American people. Claims that the bill only applies to 875,000 illegal immigrants are misleading. According to the Migration Policy Institute, an estimated two million illegal immigrants under the age of 35 would be eligible for amnesty under the DREAM Act. Once amnesty recipients become citizens and turn 21, they can sponsor their illegal immigrant parents for legalization. This kind of chain migration only encourages more illegal immigration, as parents will bring their children to the U.S. in hopes of receiving citizenship. Read entire article Banks Financing Mexico Gangs Admitted in Wells Fargo Deal ![]() By Michael Smith - Jun 28, 2010 9:00 PM PT Just before sunset on April 10, 2006, a DC-9 jet landed at the international airport in the port city of Ciudad del Carmen, 500 miles east of Mexico City. As soldiers on the ground approached the plane, the crew tried to shoo them away, saying there was a dangerous oil leak. So the troops grew suspicious and searched the jet. They found 128 black suitcases, packed with 5.7 tons of cocaine, valued at $100 million. The stash was supposed to have been delivered from Caracas to drug traffickers in Toluca, near Mexico City, Mexican prosecutors later found. Law enforcement officials also discovered something else. The smugglers had bought the DC-9 with laundered funds they transferred through two of the biggest banks in the U.S.: Wachovia Corp. and Bank of America Corp., Bloomberg Markets magazine reports in its August 2010 issue. This was no isolated incident. Wachovia, it turns out, had made a habit of helping move money for Mexican drug smugglers. Wells Fargo & Co., which bought Wachovia in 2008, has admitted in court that its unit failed to monitor and report suspected money laundering by narcotics traffickers -- including the cash used to buy four planes that shipped a total of 22 tons of cocaine. The admission came in an agreement that Charlotte, North Carolina-based Wachovia struck with federal prosecutors in March, and it sheds light on the largely undocumented role of U.S. banks in contributing to the violent drug trade that has convulsed Mexico for the past four years. ‘Blatant Disregard’ Wachovia admitted it didn’t do enough to spot illicit funds in handling $378.4 billion for Mexican-currency-exchange houses from 2004 to 2007. That’s the largest violation of the Bank Secrecy Act, an anti-money-laundering law, in U.S. history -- a sum equal to one-third of Mexico’s current gross domestic product. “Wachovia’s blatant disregard for our banking laws gave international cocaine cartels a virtual carte blanche to finance their operations,” says Jeffrey Sloman, the federal prosecutor who handled the case. Since 2006, more than 22,000 people have been killed in drug-related battles that have raged mostly along the 2,000-mile (3,200-kilometer) border that Mexico shares with the U.S. In the Mexican city of Ciudad Juarez, just across the border from El Paso, Texas, 700 people had been murdered this year as of mid- June. Six Juarez police officers were slaughtered by automatic weapons fire in a midday ambush in April. Rondolfo Torre, the leading candidate for governor in the Mexican border state of Tamaulipas, was gunned down yesterday, less than a week before elections in which violence related to drug trafficking was a central issue. 45,000 Troops Mexican President Felipe Calderon vowed to crush the drug cartels when he took office in December 2006, and he’s since deployed 45,000 troops to fight the cartels. They’ve had little success. Among the dead are police, soldiers, journalists and ordinary citizens. The U.S. has pledged Mexico $1.1 billion in the past two years to aid in the fight against narcotics cartels. In May, President Barack Obama said he’d send 1,200 National Guard troops, adding to the 17,400 agents on the U.S. side of the border to help stem drug traffic and illegal immigration. Behind the carnage in Mexico is an industry that supplies hundreds of tons of cocaine, heroin, marijuana and methamphetamines to Americans. The cartels have built a network of dealers in 231 U.S. cities from coast to coast, taking in about $39 billion in sales annually, according to the Justice Department. ‘You’re Missing the Point’ Twenty million people in the U.S. regularly use illegal drugs, spurring street crime and wrecking families. Narcotics cost the U.S. economy $215 billion a year -- enough to cover health care for 30.9 million Americans -- in overburdened courts, prisons and hospitals and lost productivity, the department says. “It’s the banks laundering money for the cartels that finances the tragedy,” says Martin Woods, director of Wachovia’s anti-money-laundering unit in London from 2006 to 2009. Woods says he quit the bank in disgust after executives ignored his documentation that drug dealers were funneling money through Wachovia’s branch network. Topic: Google Adwords As Lobbyist Google Considers Connection Between Banking Practices and The Money Suckers To Be Irrelevant Conceptual disconnect is symptomatic of global financial problemby Walt Thiessen Friday, November 26, 2010 As part of my efforts to promote my novel, The Money Suckers, I decided to attempt to use Google AdWords to promote my book. My novel is about the monetary, financial, and banking system and the role it played in the Financial Crisis of 2008. Google considers my novel's thesis, that the banking, financial and monetary system itself (as it was originally designed) caused the financial crisis, to be irrelevant to the keywords related to banking and finance. Sound crazy? Yes, it sounds crazy to me, too, but that's Google official position, as described by a member of their Adwords team in response to my email to them requesting support. Here's how it all happened. I set up my Adwords accounts and began looking for keywords directly related to the thesis and content of my novel. The list I developed included the following keywords: subprime mortgage, banking, foreclosures, paper money, monetary policy, recession, money supply, money supplies, federal reserve crisis, federal reserve bank, money debt, monetary, the fed, economic crisis, federal reserve conspiracy, expansionary monetary policy, bailout, bank failures, international monetary system, financial crisis, federal reserve, financial meltdown, debt money, fractional reserve banking system, monetary system, fiat money, fractional reserve banking, monetary systems, the federal reserve system, u.s. monetary system, fractional reserve lending, the monetary system, fractional reserve, world money supply, global recession, causes of financial crisis, monetary policy tools, total money supply, fractional reserve system, global economic crisis, economic meltdown, global financial crisis, world monetary system, money as debt, bank bailout, debt based monetary system, current financial crisis, fractional banking system, debt based money, end the fed, fractional reserve banking definition, causes of global financial crisis, fractional reserve banking explained, fractional reserve banking fraud, make money supply, money supply growth, fiat currency, current money supply. Read entire article Obama fed plan to swell mortgage foreclosures December 1st, 2010 By Peter G. Miller The White House plan to halt federal pay increases in 2011 and 2012 is a textbook example of the wrong idea with the wrong marketing plan, one which will unfortunately increase foreclosures nationwide. To start, the White House explains that “because of the irresponsibility of the past decade, the President inherited a $1.3 trillion projected deficit upon taking office and an economic crisis that threatened to put the nation into a second Great Depression. He moved quickly to get the economy moving again. Now, the economy is growing, and we have gained private sector jobs for the past 10 months.” This is nonsense for two reasons: First, one needs to look at the bigger picture, the Bush Administration racked up a deficit of $4.35 trillion over eight years according to official Treasury Department figures. This was after four years of surpluses originated under the Clinton Administration and talk of actually paying off the entire deficit by now. Second, the problem is not just the Bush deficit. The problem is the unwillingness of the current Congress to raise taxes on higher income households, specifically those making $250,000 and more. Buffett & Taxes Warren Buffett, one of the richest people in the world, explained the situation on ABC News very simply: “If anything, taxes for the lower and middle class and maybe even the upper middle class should even probably be cut further. But I think that people at the high end — people like myself — should be paying a lot more in taxes. We have it better than we’ve ever had it.” Just how good does Buffett have it? The current top tax rate is 35 percent. According to Stanford University, the top federal tax rate in 1950 was 84.357%. That’s not all: The top rate was 91% in 1960, 71.75% in 1970 and 70 percent in 1980. In other words,..... Read entire article ![]() Why it Matters to Buy Heirloom Plants and Seeds posted by Annie B. Bond Nov 28, 1999 12:19 pm filed under: Garden & Nature, Lawns & Gardens The loss of genetic seed diversity facing us today may lead to a catastrophe far beyond our imagining. The Irish potato famine, which led to the death or displacement of two and a half million people in the 1840s, is an example of what can happen when farmers rely on only a few plant species as crop cornerstones. One blight wiped out the single potato type that came from deep in the Andes mountains; it did not have the necessary resistance. If the Irish had planted different varieties of potatoes, one type would have most likely resisted the blight. We can help save heirloom seeds by learning how to buy and save these genetically diverse jewels ourselves. ABOUT SEEDS One kind of seed, called First generation hybrids (F1 hybrids), have been hand-pollinated, and are patented, often sterile, genetically identical within food types, and sold from multinational seed companies. A second kind of seeds are genetically engineered. Bioengineered seeds are fast contaminating the global seed supply on a wholesale level, and threatening the purity of seeds everywhere. The DNA of the plant has been changed. A cold water fish gene could be spliced into a tomato to make the plant more resistant to frost, for example. A third kind of seeds are called heirloom or open-pollinated, genetically diverse jewels that have been passed on from generation to generation. With heirloom seeds there are 10,000 varieties of apples, compared to the very few F1 hyprid apple types. The Mayan word “gene” means “spiral of life.” The genes in heirloom seeds give life to our future. Unless the 100 million backyard gardeners and organic farmers keep these seeds alive, they will disappear altogether. This is truly an instance where one person–a lone gardener in a backyard vegetable garden–can potentially make all the difference in the world.
